Conjuring a unique but universal language from that most ubiquitous of instruments, the acoustic guitar, Tony McManus has both extended and transcended the parameters of contemporary Celtic music. Ranked by peers and predecessors alike alongside the guitar world’s all-time greats, his fiendishly dexterous, dazzlingly original playing draws on traditions from the entire Celtic diaspora – Scotland, Ireland, Brittany, Galicia, Asturias, Cape Breton, Quebec – along with still further-ranging flavours, such as jazz and east European music. Long applauded for his uncanny ability to transpose the delicate, complex ornamentation characteristic of traditional bagpipe or fiddle tunes – even the phrasing of a Gaelic song – onto his own six strings, McManus is increasingly being acknowledged also as a pioneering figure in bridging the realms of Celtic music and other guitar genres.

Since releasing his debut album Ballads in 2010, Matthew Byrne has established himself as one of Canada’s foremost traditional singers. His rich and powerful vocals, refined guitar style, and compelling interpretations of unique traditional songs have made him a favourite of folk audiences at home in Newfoundland and abroad. After a long hiatus from the studio and the road, Byrne released his 4th studio album, Stealing Time. This project brought Byrne to Yellow Arch Studios in Sheffield, UK, where he teamed up with folk legend Martin Simpson as producer. The album features instrumentation from some of the finest musicians on the English folk scene, including Nancy Kerr, Andy Cutting, and Liz Hanks. Stealing Time won two 2026 Canadian Folk Music Awards - Traditional Album of the Year and Traditional Singer of the Year. www.matthewbyrne.net

The Unfaithful Servants have emerged as one of Canada’s must-see acoustic acts, delivering a thrilling modern take on folk, bluegrass, and Americana. Known for explosive instrumentals, rich harmonies, and timeless songwriting, the band has earned a reputation as a powerhouse live draw across Western Canada.
At the heart of the group is mandolinist Jesse Cobb, a founding member of The Infamous Stringdusters and a widely respected innovator on the mandolin. Cobb has shared stages with Béla Fleck, David Grisman, Dierks Bentley, Lee Ann Womack, and held a residency at the Grand Ole Opry. Alongside him is prolific songwriter and guitarist Dylan Stone, whose emotionally driven writing and commanding stage presence anchor the band’s sound. The lineup is rounded out by young fiddle standout Quin Etheridge-Pedden, and anchored by bassist Mark Johnson.
The band’s sophomore album, Fallen Angel, represents a major artistic leap. Produced by Adrian Dolan (The Wailin’ Jennys, The Bills), the record distills the essence of The Unfaithful Servants’ sound—raw emotion, intricate arrangements, and fearless musicianship. Americana UK praised the title track, noting that “‘Fallen Angel’ is a great song and the rest of the album reflects that same quality.” The album debuted at #8 on the International Folk Music Charts and #27 on Canadian Folk Radio, drawing widespread critical acclaim. Country Music News called it “a towering success… solidifying The Unfaithful Servants as an essential voice in modern Newgrass,” while Twangville highlighted the album’s “stellar storytelling.”
Following their self-titled debut—nominated for New Group of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards—the band spent years touring, refining their sound, and expanding their musical scope. That evolution is fully realized on Fallen Angel, a record that captures both the intensity of their live performances and the emotional depth of their songwriting.
With acclaimed appearances at Vancouver Island MusicFest, Salmon Arm Roots & Blues, Islands Folk Fest, and beyond, The Unfaithful Servants have established themselves as a formidable live act. Kelly Nakatsuka (CBC / Islands Folk Festival) praises the band as “one of the most exciting bands from Vancouver Island in some time… gorgeous harmonies, fine songwriting, beautiful instrumental interplay, and some seriously rippin’ solos,” a reputation reinforced by their world-class musicianship, critically acclaimed new album, and a live show hailed for its “explosive instrumental prowess” (Cowichan Bluegrass Festival). www.unfaithfulservants.com

Alfie Zappacosta decided on a music career in his teens and set his sights upon being a guitarist. When his vocal dexterity and song writing proficiency were uncovered by a publisher while writing for his first original band “Surrender”, events would be put in motion to champion Zappacosta (dropping his first name) as a solo artist and bring him to the world’s attention. “Start Again”, “Passion”, “When I Fall in Love Again” and “Nothing Can Stand In Your Way” became staples on Canadian adult contemporary radio and Zappacosta became a personified Rock Star.
In 1987, Walt Disney’s Danger Bay would bring Zappacosta an episode written specifically for him titled “Rock Star”. In the same year, he penned and sang “Overload” exclusively for the multi-platinum soundtrack “Dirty Dancing” and Loverboy would record Zappacosta’s “That’s Where The Money Goes” for their Wildside album. In 1988, he was awarded JUNOs for “Album of The Year’ and “Most Promising Artist”, an American Music Award for “Most Popular Album of The Year” and named the Canadian Publishers Music Association’s “Best Rock Star”.

In the modern musical landscape, it’s rare to hear something as put-together as Cascadian folk duo West My Friend - something so layered, deeply symphonic, baroque, and mysterious in its own winking way while still courting an edge of disaster. Simple is safe, but complex is fiery, intricate, and ultimately more rewarding.
Steeped in the visual styles of western Canada, West My Friend are veterans of the Victoria music scene and recently released their Independent Music Awards-nominated fourth album “In Constellation”. On this latest work, the band continues to refine the art of creating achingly poignant folk music, only this time, they’re backed by a full symphony orchestra, heavily layered while remaining lighthearted. Intricate yet accessible. Melancholic yet optimistic.
Mingling grassroots guitar, accordion, mandolin, orchestral instruments, and interweaving harmonies, In Constellation (produced by Joby Baker, co-produced and arranged by Adrian Dolan) features longtime members conceiving a new box, then thinking outside of it. Punctuated by musings on anxiety and belonging, song structures vary and dynamics change from moment to moment, painting powerful lyrical portraits over backgrounds of violins and trumpets that swell, collapse, and tumble between bold harmonies. With over 800 performances and countless tours under their belt, West My Friend is bringing forth a new sound you’ve never known you’ve wanted and new meaning to the things you’ve never known you needed.

Big Little Lions are an award winning duo who were born out of a collaboration that won them a JUNO Award in 2014. Since then they have been cranking out infectious folk pop songs that are jam-packed with emotion and tight harmonies that sound like the product of two people working side-by-side instead of living in different countries.
They have released 7 albums to date, which have garnered them awards and nominations including the CFMA Ensemble of the Year, Independent Music Awards Americana Sing of the Year and John Lennon Songwriting Competition Song of the Year. Their critically acclaimed music has appeared on the CBC’s Top 20 and featured on shows like q and Vinyl Cafe. The duo consists of Paul Otten and Helen Austin, both hugely prolific songwriters - their music has been placed in hundreds of movie trailers, ads, network TV shows.
Their live show is quite the spectacle with Paul playing drums, bass and keyboard all while singing lead vocals. Helen, who is no slacker either, sings, plays guitar and foot percussion. They use every limb, and then some, to make two people sound like a full band. http://biglittlelions.com

Jeanne Truax, deriving from Kawartha Lakes, Ontario, will steal your heart when she steps on stage. Inspired by the contemporary sounds of The Beatles and Wanda Jackson, Jeanne’s rockabilly and roots flavoured performances will leave you coming back for more.
Jeanne has spent the last year crafting her high-energy “rock n roll” live show, but she has a few other tricks up her sleeve. Along with being an actor from a very young age, she grew up in a family full of musicians which led to her keen desire to writing music and has been doing so since she could talk!
Yet, Jeanne’s writing style varies from her rockabilly persona- while still adding a vintage touch, she blends Canadiana and Indie sounds with her unique voice and realist charm in her lyrics to create a modern pop sounding melody. With all this time writing, herself and her older brother, Nathan Truax, band together to create and release her debut single titled “I Know What You Like”. This track features beloved artists, Melissa Payne and Nicholas Campbell, as well as Nathan Truax who were all able to perfectly encapsulate a piece of Jeanne’s character.
Jeanne has received the 2025 Peterborough Folk Festival’s Emerging Artist Award and plans to see though her music journey, with bigger and better shows every time.
You don’t want to miss an opportunity to see her in action.” https://jeannetruax.com/

After 23 years away chasing dreams in Toronto, three-time JUNO nominee Suzie Ungerleider (formerly Oh Susanna) returned home to Vancouver, drawn by its salt air and towering trees. Her new album, Among the Evergreens, is a deeply personal journey through time, tracing her path from youthful dreams to the wisdom of experience.
“It’s about being like a tree with all those rings around you, the layers of your life telling you who you are and where you've been,” she says. Imagery of the outdoors, of green valleys and trees shedding their leaves, infuses this new collection and it is garnering high praise as one of her best.
Uncut Magazine describes Among the Evergreens as “thoughtful, luminous, expressive” and featured it as Americana Album of the Month for June 2025. Mojo Magazine’s four-star review glowed that these 10 new songs “are about as sweet as folk-Americana comes.”
Suzie brings her stories to life with her captivating voice and raw honesty. Inviting you into her world through poetic lyricism and mesmerizing melodies, she shares her experiences from teenage-hood to motherhood. “Here I am making songs back among the evergreens, a prodigal daughter, who is now a mother, asking, who was I then and who am I now, where have I been and what did I learn along the way?”
Expect an evening of heartfelt music and vivid storytelling that lingers long after the last note fades, leaving you among the evergreens, dreaming and remembering. https://suzieungerleider.com/
